Next, we will fit the above two functions in the phases we visualized separately. Imagine if both these roles are performed by the same person? This debate ‘s been around for some time in the industry quite. I have had a firsthand experience in doing the same and I’ve listed down some key beneficial points in following this approach.
Also, to say that I have also played both roles separately initially in my career but lately I am third, new model. As product owners we always want the projects to be shipped promptly and in estimated budge with desired quality. But such ideal situations are observed rarely.

What if both these responsibilities are performed by the same person! Especially while managing different priorities this approach comes extremely helpful. As an analyst and manager, I understand what the customer needs exactly, when do they need and I can plan it out better thus. Planning the requirements-oriented tasks and deliverables must be a joint responsibility between the project manager and business analyst. Requirements management is the major responsibility of the continuing business analyst but must be accomplished within the framework of the rest of the project and must meet organization and project standards.
If both project manager and business analyst are designated to a task from start, planning is comprehensive. So we now have the person who is hearing all customer needs and issues and at the same time the management engine working in his mind is doing the planning too. Thus giving a good picture for the range, estimations, and period of task from the very start. Change Management is an integral part of the majority of the projects.
Even after observing utmost precision in capturing and documenting requirements; tasks do strike this stage of the change in requirements. Using one side is the analyst who wants to keep the customer satisfied and happy and on the other side is the manager who’s rightly concerned for the timeline and budget of the project.
